Weight loss peptides are effective for resolving stubborn body fat and improving your metabolic health. Optimal metabolic health is crucial for longevity and preventing disease and debility. Shedding excess body fat reduces dangerous chronic inflammation, resolves brain fog, fatigue, joint aches and pains, headaches, and mood issues.
Weight loss peptides (GLP-1s) have ended an era of weight loss involving significant physical, mental, and emotional energy. Many people feel like weight loss is as demanding as a part-time job, requiring extreme dedication. Calorie counting, tracking macros, meal prepping, and hours at the gym does not fit easily into most people’s modern lifestyle and obligations.
While a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise will enhance the results you will see on weight loss peptides and amplify many other arenas of your wellness, people on weight loss peptides have more peace of mind knowing that the medication will be doing most of the heavy lifting.
How Do Weight Loss Peptides Work?
Researchers have been studying insulin stimulating compounds for a century. GLP-1 medications, or weight loss peptides, have been around for 20 years. Currently, 1 in 8 Americans have experience with a GLP-1 medication. GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like-peptide 1 agonists.
GLP-1 medications increase naturally occurring hormones call incretins which make people feel full longer, thereby regulating appetite.
GLP-1 medications increase insulin secretion. Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone that regulates blood sugar levels.
Research has shown that at 20 months, a weight loss peptide called Tirzepatide resulted in an average of 25.3% reduction in weight for nearly 700 participants.
A study of patients on Semaglutide showed an average of 15% reduction in weight after 15 months.
At Ageless Beauty Rx, we offer both Tirzepatide and Semaglutide for patients looking to achieve their weight loss goals.
Becoming a Weight Loss Peptide Patient
GLP-1 medications must be supervised by a prescribing physician and monitored at regular intervals to assess for dosage changes to properly achieve your weight loss goals.
A very small percentage of patients are not candidates for GLP-1 medication due to certain medical conditions, therefore an intake visit with a physician is necessary to ensure you are a healthy candidate for weight loss peptides.
Studies show that those who discontinue Tirzepatide will, on average, regain 14% of their weight back. Those on Semaglutide will regain two-thirds of their weight back.
Underlying factors such as age-related hormonal decline, thyroid disorders, gut microbiome imbalance, and sleep disorders are among several factors that can be the root causes of not being able to keep weight off.
At Ageless Beauty Rx, patients undergo a thorough assessment, occasionally involving bloodwork, to assess for these root cause factors.
Many telemedicine weight loss companies exist where physicians do not dig deeper into root cause factors, ensuring many patients will be dependent on their peptides long-term.
While many of these programs may have attractive price points, in the long-run patients end up paying more. It is crucial to partner with a clinic that has your best interests at heart in losing weight and keeping weight off.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I get insurance to cover weight loss peptides at Ageless Beauty Rx?
Ageless Beauty Rx is a medical spa and aesthetic medicine clinic. We assist a wide variety of patients who wish to lose weight. Insurance companies have restrictive criteria for weight loss peptides, often limited to patients with very high Body Mass Indexes with chronic disease. Our clinic is aimed at weight loss for aesthetic purposes, not for management of chronic disease. To serve the widest variety of patients, we only work with compounded weight loss peptides which are not covered by insurance.
- How do I take a GLP-1 medication?
Weight loss peptides are administered by self-injection once weekly at home into the abdomen area, upper arm, or inner thigh. Patients receive a thorough consultation on how to self-inject and the necessary supplies when they become a patient at Ageless Beauty Rx.
Most patients do not report significant pain with their injections. For sensitive patients, weekly injections can be performed at our office, or local anesthetic can be prescribed by your physician for a completely pain-free experience.
- What are the common side effects of weight loss peptides?
Due to how GLP-1 medications slow the emptying of your stomach, patients can experience gastrointestinal side effects. Nausea, bowel movement changes such as constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, and gas are common.
Statistically, these side effects occur in 15-20% of patients on average.
- How long will I need to take weight loss peptides?
The length of your treatment depends on the amount of desired weight loss and is therefore highly individual.
Generally, 1-3 lbs. of weight loss per week is the target for most patients. After the desired amount of weight has been lost, maintenance therapy is often needed to maintain results.
Your chances of discontinuing weight loss peptides and maintaining weight loss improve dramatically with identifying root cause factors with Dr. Ash, such as age-related thyroid conditions, age related hormonal decline , and digestive and gut health, etc.
